Maya Security Tool Scan File Without Opening File?

How is the Maya Security Tool Scan File function supposed to work? I tried it on a file and it seems it opens it up and scans the file after; this is judging by the output of the script editor. I thought the whole point was to let me know there’s an issue before the file opens?

This article in Part C Step 5 says that it should scan without opening, but is not the behavior I observed. Anyone know if this is intended or if I am not using the tool correctly?

I’ve run it on a known-infected file and it correctly identified and fixed it without letting the file do its dirty trick… perhaps it “opens” it in a special way.
