How do I get involved in the tech art community?

Tech-artists.org is a community run site. If you are interested in contributing to the community there are a bunch of ways you can help out

  1. moderators
We generally have a great community with positive interactions but it’s the internet and there’s always room for people who can intervene to keep things helpful and inclusive. Everybody here can flag posts that might be inappropriate (see https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-are-flags-and-how-do-they-work/32783) but it’s important to have human moderators both here and on the slack channel to help with things like making sure that threads are in the right place, well tagged, and free of distractions like spam or irrelevant stuff. If you are interested you can somebody from the moderation group to inquire about becoming a mod.

  2. curators
Our new YouTube channel is intended to be a place to aggregate cool tech-art related video content – whether it’s something you’ve done yourself. It’d be great to get extra help finding and curating techart videos for the channel as a resource for others in the field.

  3. wiki contributors
The techart wiki is a work in progress. Contributions and editing are both very useful as we try to make it into a community resource that TAs can rely on to help with common problems. If you’re interested pm @vstepano for some help on getting started.

  4. The TAO Board
There is a bunch of behind-the-scenes work that helps keeps things running at the site – from managing things like our domain name servers to organizing get togethers at GDC and other industry events. There’s always extra work to do and it you’re interested, contact the
moderation group to see how you can contribute. We’d particularly like to here from people who are comfortable administrating a web server on Linux.

You’ll notice that none of this relies on having a long resume or long list of industry contacts: contributing to the community is something anybody can do regardless of your title and background. Part of the mission of the site is to help new people find their way into our strange and fascinating field, so all perspectives and backgrounds have something to contribute.

The one unique thing that experienced TA’s do have is, well… experience, If you’re interested in helping new folks enter the field or grow their career, consider volunteering to work in our mentorship program as it evolves in 2020 and 2021.

Also I’d like to add that we have a Github Organization setup to host community maintained tools.

Contributors are always welcome.

A really good opportunity is the Maya Security Project for Maya folks – or organizing the same for Max and Blender!
