Description:

We’re looking for an Unreal Engine Technical Artist to join our Virtual Production team for a major franchise series currently in development at Netflix. We are building a team that will utilize real-time engines and pioneer new virtual production workflows that lean into cutting edge prep, physical production, post production and VFX processes. Applicant should be our team’s bridge between the creative vision of the franchise creators you’ll be working with directly and the technology at Netflix’s disposal. Applicant should bring performance, consistency, workflow, and curiosity. Lastly, applicant should help support creativity and collaboration between various departments, while reporting directly to the production’s VFX supervisor.

Start Date & Location:

  • Mid-April 2019 start (Can be flexible with part or full time, with potential into 2020 for the right candidate)
  • In and/or around the Netflix headquarters building in Hollywood, CA

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience as a technical artist (or equivalent capacity) in 3D game development. Experience with UE4 blueprints, physically-based rendering, materials & real-time lighting
  • Strong art skills and experience with modeling, texturing, animation, & lighting for games. Experience with photogrammetry/Lidar a plus
  • Ability to consolidate input from multiple sources into optimized real-time production assets
  • Help to develop and standardize workflows for producing assets, materials, shaders, and LODs. Actively participate in optimizations; identify and fix bugs as required
  • Work closely with the design team to conceptualize, model, dress and light real-time scenes based on concept art and photographic reference
  • In-depth knowledge of real-time shader implementations, limitations of shaders in VR, and strong understanding of PBR pipelines
  • Experienced in the development, authoring & organization of efficient materials via material editor
  • Collaborative, team-player attitude. Open & receptive to new ideas, constructive criticism, direction and changes
  • A portfolio/reel submission - including a detailed breakdown of your work

Desired Qualifications:

  • Passion for creating worlds and telling stories through interactive gaming or scripted content
  • Proficient with one or more of the following: Maya, Substance Designer / Painter, Zbrush or Mudbox, Houdini, Mari, Unity
  • Experience working with VFX production pipelines, experience with VR and/or AR is a plus
  • Previous VFX/on-set experience a plus
