Alembic materials and lights

Hello,

I just learned that alembic apparently has support for materials and lights, however I struggle to find any resources on the matter.
I understood that alembic is able to represent geometry, which in itself is a fairly universal concept, by being a point cache. The premise being that in order to be inter-application baking removes any DCC depenedent processes from the equation.

Has anyone any information / knowledge on how alembic deals with materials and lights which I imagine to be harder to detach from their renderer specific nature (node network, attributes etc.). Does alembic has primitives with “classes” similar to USD and are any studios using this more exotic properties of alembic outside of it’s geometry representation?

If you are using Arnold take a look at Operators.
