@passerby: what would be the best way to make a 3 color linear gradient
i know i could do it via a texture
but it would be more ideal if i could do it all shader

@passerby: in unity for this i made my own object type that generates its own gradient textures

so you do two lerps
@passerby: but that seems like in over kill since all i need is 3 colors
@zoltane: and lerp between them
@passerby: so take my first alpha range and work with half of it
then later work with half plus half
