Maya auto rigging tool for differing imported skeletons?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any Maya auto rigging tools that would allow me to simplify the rigging process of imported skeletons that could have fairly arbitrary naming or joint counts? I’m guessing I’m looking for a modular tool that would let me specify which joints made up the arms/legs/spine etc & then build the necessary controls.

I’ve looked at Maya’s HIK rig and whilst this is somewhat useful if I need to use mocap the project I’m working on will likely require a bias slightly more towards hand keying animations and personally I find the HIK rig pretty nasty for that kind of work.

Any suggestions would be much appriciated.

mGear would be the best starting point to look at for this as they just added a new template system for this.
